# Academic Year

> Understanding April–March academic years and year-end rollover

## Academic Year Structure

ShikshaOS uses **April–March** academic years, standard for Indian institutes:

* **2025–26**: 1 April 2025 — 31 March 2026
* **2026–27**: 1 April 2026 — 31 March 2027

## Setting the Current Year

Go to **Settings → Academic Year** and mark the current year as active. This scopes attendance reports and fee views to the right period.

## Year-End Rollover

At the end of March, run the rollover to start the new academic year:

    Mark all finishing students as Alumni before rolling over. See [Alumni](/admin/alumni).

  <Step title="Run rollover">
    Go to **Settings → Academic Year → Start New Year**. This creates the new year and moves continuing students forward.

  <Step title="Update fees">
    Set new fee amounts for continuing students in their profiles.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Create new batches">
    Create batches for the new year (e.g. "11th Science Morning 2027").
  </Step>

<Warning>
  Always graduate students **before** running rollover. Combo enrollment students are handled automatically and are never charged twice.
